Most of this work was painted after a serious illness which made me re-evaluate my life. The female figures are based on my daughters but could also represent me. There are many references to life and the natural world – landscape, sea, plants and animals. Some of the images have positive associations (flowers, birds as “guardian angels”) and some are more threatening ( lurking cats, fish with teeth etc.) The hands which appear in some images, are inspired by cave paintings and signify ownership. |
